Save The Cecil B. Moore Library Town Hall Meeting 3.11.25
Community members, neighbors, developers and more gathered at Wayland Baptist Church to discuss the potential to save the Cecil B. Moore Library, a historic yet underfunded education site in the burgeoning North Philly Sharswood-Peacetown neighborhood. Several residents gave testimony to voice their concerns that the proposals provided via Council-member Jeffrey Young were seeking to sell out their community resource in favor of yet another expensive housing project. The persistent opposition resulted in a near immediate 180 of the previous declaration that the Library would not operate pending repairs. on Thursday, 3/13, just two days after the meeting, the city reopened the Library as its budget shortfalls are remedied.

Rally For Mumia Abu Jamal 12.9.24
In recognition of the 43 years that political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal has been incarcerated, supporters of the "Free Mumia" Movement gathered in Center City to send a repeated message to the District Attorney, the City of Philadelphia, and ultimately the entire nation that Mumia Abu-Jamal deserves to be a free man. Organizers from Mobilization 4 Mumia spoke about the importance of the movement and to remember those who have given their continual sacrifice. Brother Tommy Joshua of the Philly Peace Park speaking at the One Africa! One Nation! Flea Market. in Clark Park, West Philadelphia. Hosted by the African People’s Socialist Party, the Uhuru Flea Market centers businesses in the Black community, in order to support self-determination for all diaspora in Philadelphia. Members of the African People’s Socialist Party are currently seeking support and solidarity for the ‘Uhuru 3’. Back in August of 2022, the FBI carried out raids of several members of the party’s properties. Chairman Omali Yeshitela as well as two other members of the movement are currently awaiting trial for trumped up federal charges, alleging a conspiracy to act as foreign agents. The One Africa! One Nation Flea Market will continue throughout the season at Clark Park, with subsequent markets taking place on June 15th, August 17th, September 14th, & October 12th.

Corners To Connections Wellness and Employment fair hosted by Taylor MADE opportunities. Pastor G. Lamar Stewart details the idea and execution of Corners to Connections at the group’s wellness fair on October 25th. Corners to Connections is a reoccurring violence prevention initiative that brings faith leaders from Taylor Memorial Baptist Church and other community members to the streets to distribute resources and be proactive in addressing issues of violence and poverty. The program is run by Taylor MADE Opportunities, the church’s non-profit arm.

Justice For Eddie Irizarry Jr. Rally 9.26.23
Brief testimony from a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (Philadelphia Chapter) during a rally and march for justice for Eddie Irizarry Jr. outside of City Hall. Irizarry Jr. was killed by former Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial back on Aug. 14th during a traffic stop. Protestors rallied on Tuesday, Sept. 26 after all charges were dismissed against the officer by Municipal Court Judge Wendy Pew.

Free The Land: Philadelphia's Fight for Land Sovereignty
Free The Land is a video project that explores the relationship between the city of Philadelphia's vacant land problem and the explosion of new development. Trapped in limbo and cornered by bureaucracy, community gardens and green spaces sit on the front lines of the fight for the vitality of their neighborhoods. The film centers on the stories of three community gardens (Urban Creators, North Philly Peace Park, and London Legacy Garden) but addresses issues and roadblocks that are experienced by nearly every green space in the city. Created in collaboration with NJ-based media organization Black in Jersey. Directed, produced, edited, and filmed by 2BD and the 2BD Media team. Music by Aaron Shakur.
