Public Enemy #1 - June 2018
This Public Enemy was a pretty easy one to decide. Regardless of the political climate in the U.S. or ideological leaning the general consensus is that kids shouldn’t be locked up and separated from their parent’s right? Apparently the answer to that question is yes. So then why is it that this is happening in the United State? It seems to be collateral.
Despite the smoke screens and deflections deployed by members of the White House team this has been called for by the current administration. While families showing up to the border under the previous Obama administration were indeed subject to being detained they were not separated. It was not until a recent “zero tolerance” policy change by Attorney General Jeff Sessions that this new, cruel policy was put into play.
When pressed on the issue, the blame was placed on the Democrats with Trump stating “the Democrats have to change their law. That’s their law.” All of this going on while the children are suffering. And while the media storm seemed to circulate around the issue for quite some time, it eventually died down.
On June 20, President Trump signed an executive order halting the policy of separating children from parents and a federal judge followed up by requiring that the administration reunite children with their families by the end of Tuesday. As of now the families are yet been reunited.
